I needed to create a site to share my personality and design skills with future employers and peers.
I built this entire site from scratch - carefully crafting every last margin and graphic.
Goal
Professional, but fun. Vintage, yet modern. Clear, but dense.
Brand Identity
MY AVATAR
2018: I made my first digital drawing of a magician character in high school. 2021: When running out of ideas for a 365-day drawing challenge in a panic, I drew myself ... drawing myself. 2025: It has now evolved into a combination of my current style and the first digital drawing I ever made (hence the top hat and shoes).
FUN FACT: The hair strands on both sides of my head match my childhood haircut
WHY BLUE & GOLD?
Protanopia Friendly Palette
A very special person in my life is unable to see greens and reds, with a condition called "protanopia". I wanted to design a website that would look the same to me as it does to him - at least, the most I could.
Complimentary Colours
Blue and yellow are on opposite sides of the colour wheel, so they have great contrast together.
These colours successfully pass WCAG 2 guidelines for accessible legibility on certain combinations of foregrounds and backgrounds.
Based on sketches and researching other case studies (e.g. Cofolios), key screens and layouts were finalized in Figma, and all visuals created in Figma or Procreate.
Design System
Colours, typefaces, sizing, and margins recorded as variables in Figma and Webflow.
Webflow
The most difficult part of this learning experience - an entirely different industry standard tool.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: • HTML • CSS • CMS • Responsiveness (Desktop, Tablet, & Mobile Views)
Self-Publishing
This was the first time I needed to put out a working protoyping into the world - so I learned how.
